Toto Home Additions & ADU: The Santa Clarita Owner’s Guide

If you’re planning a home addition or ADU in Santa Clarita and want Toto fixtures specified throughout, we can help. Elmstead Remodeling Santa Clarita installs Toto toilets, washlets, and bath fittings as part of larger addition and ADU builds, with typical project costs running $45,000 – $130,000 for a home addition and $90,000 – $220,000 for a detached ADU. Owners usually reach out to us after realizing their existing plumber or contractor won’t take the time to spec Toto rough-in dimensions correctly, which causes delays once the fixtures arrive.

We’re an independent remodeling contractor, not a Toto dealer or factory affiliate. What we offer is something different: a crew that measures for Toto’s specific rough-in requirements before framing closes up, because adding or extending a bathroom inside new square footage means the plumbing chase, drain location, and supply height all have to match the fixture you actually bought. We’ve seen too many Santa Clarita homeowners order a Toto washlet only to find the electrical outlet landed in the wrong wall. That’s the kind of mistake a written plan prevents.

Which Toto Models This Applies To

For home additions and ADUs, the Toto products that matter most are the ones going into new bathrooms. The common lines we specify are the Drake, Ultramax, and Nexus toilets, along with the Washlet C2 and C5 bidet seats. Each has its own dimensional footprint. A Drake uses a 12-inch rough-in. An Ultramax II uses the same 12-inch rough-in but has a wider bowl profile, so the clearance from the finished side wall needs an extra 2 to 3 inches. That’s the kind of detail that gets missed when someone’s drawing plans off a generic template.

The compatibility conversation starts with a simple question: which Toto did you already buy, or which one are you planning to buy? If the fixture is still in the box, the model number is printed on the side. If it’s not purchased yet, we can spec the model and hand the written dimensions to whoever is drafting the addition or ADU plans. For OEM versus aftermarket, we default to OEM Toto parts for anything inside the tank or connected to the washlet hose, because the tolerances are tighter and the warranty stays valid. Aftermarket seats and supply lines are fine where the quality difference doesn’t affect how the fixture performs.

Signs Your Toto Home Additions & ADU Is Failing

  • Washlet won’t heat water. The inline water heater in the seat has a finite service life, usually 5 to 7 years under daily use with Santa Clarita’s hard water. Scale builds on the heating element and the temperature sensor starts misreading.
  • Toilet rocks on the floor. In a newly built addition this usually means the closet flange was set too high or the tile was laid uneven around it. The wax ring compresses on one side and you get a slow seep you won’t see until the subfloor stains.
  • Water runs intermittently at night. The fill valve gasket or the flapper has hardened. This happens faster in Santa Clarita because our water is mineral-heavy, and Toto valves are sensitive to sediment collecting in the diaphragm.
  • Washlet shuts off mid-cycle. That’s often the thermal fuse inside the seat tripping after the dryer coil overheats. It’s a protected failure, but it means the seat needs replacement rather than a reset.
  • Low flush pressure in a new ADU. If the toilet is at the end of a long drain run from the ADU bathroom to the main line, the slope wasn’t adjusted for the added distance. Toto’s G-Max flush compensates for a lot, but it can’t defeat bad drain pitch.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A remodeled primary bathroom with a soaking tub and walk-in shower

When we’re building a home addition or ADU in Santa Clarita, the Toto fixtures are part of the whole project budget, not a separate parts order. A full addition runs $45,000 – $130,000 depending on square footage, the number of bathrooms, and whether we’re extending plumbing from the main house or running new lines. An ADU runs $90,000 – $220,000 because it includes its own service connections, kitchen or kitchenette, and separate meter panels where needed.

Inside those numbers, the Toto fixture package is itemized. We write the line-item price for the toilet, washlet, and any additional Toto bath fittings before the first board goes down. That’s the part families want to see clearly, because a Toto washlet adds real cost and you shouldn’t have to guess whether it’s in the number. Our work carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the fixture is set wrong, the drain backs up, or the outlet isn’t where the washlet cord reaches, we make it right.

DIY or Call Us?

If you’re replacing a failed washlet seat on an existing toilet, that’s a job a careful homeowner can do with a screwdriver and fifteen minutes. Unplug, unscrew the mounting plate, lift the old seat, set the new one, and make sure the water supply line goes into the correct port. No plumbing in the walls. No risk to the floor.

But adding a new bathroom inside a home addition or ADU is not a DIY job. Running drain lines under concrete, cutting a chase through framing, moving supply lines, and wiring a dedicated GFCI outlet for the washlet all require a permit in Santa Clarita and the work gets inspected. Get any one of those wrong and you’re opening walls on a finished project. We pull the permits, we pass the inspection, and we spec the Toto rough-in before drywall goes up. If you’re mid-project and need someone to fix what another crew got wrong, call (661) 542-4056 and I’ll come look at it myself.
