Sakrete Driveway & Pavers: The Santa Clarita Owner’s Guide
If you’re standing in your driveway looking at a crack, a sunken paver, or a Sakrete bag that didn’t cure the way the label promised, here’s the direct answer: we install and repair Sakrete-compatible concrete driveways and paver systems across Santa Clarita, and a full paver driveway installation typically runs $7,000 – $18,000, while a poured concrete driveway using Sakrete mixes lands between $4,500 – $12,000. Most Santa Clarita homeowners discover a problem the same way: after a rainstorm, a cold snap, or a summer heat wave, the surface that looked fine in March suddenly shows spalling, settling, or a paver that’s sunk half an inch below its neighbors. We stock common Sakrete repair materials on the truck and can match your existing mix or paver profile without making you chase down a specialty supplier.
We’re an independent remodeling and paving contractor in Santa Clarita, not affiliated with Sakrete directly. But we’ve worked with their products long enough to know exactly which bag, which paver, and which base material your project needs, and we put every price in writing before the first shovel goes in the ground.
Which Sakrete Models This Applies To

Sakrete doesn’t sell a single “driveway system” the way a car brand sells one model. They sell bagged concrete mixes, paver-setting products, and surface treatments that get combined on-site. The most common products we see on Santa Clarita driveways are Sakrete High-Strength Concrete Mix, Sakrete 5000 Plus, Sakrete Flo-Coat resurfacer, and Sakrete Paver Set or Polymeric Sand for paver joints.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha most people miss: Sakrete High-Strength is rated around 4,000 PSI, which handles passenger vehicles fine, but if you park a heavy pickup, an RV, or a work trailer on the edge of the slab, that edge loading is exactly where 4,000 PSI concrete starts to chip and crack. We recommend Sakrete 5000 Plus (rated 5,000 PSI) for any Santa Clarita driveway that carries more than two standard cars. The bag label tells you the mix, but the PSI rating on the front is what actually matters for driveway use.
On the paver side, the OEM-versus-aftermarket question is simpler than it looks. Sakrete polymeric sand is a good product, but it’s not the only sand rated for California’s wet-dry cycles. TechniSeal and Alliance Gator make comparable joint sands that hold up equally well in Santa Clarita’s climate for $5 – $10 less per bag on larger jobs. We’ll use whichever product matches your paver profile and your budget, and we’ll tell you the brand name before we order it, not after.
To identify what you have, check the side of your paver for a manufacturer stamp, and check any leftover bags in the garage for the product code. If you only have a cracked slab and no bags, we can match the mix by looking at the aggregate size and surface texture.

Signs Your Sakrete Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Hairline cracks that widen after rain. Santa Clarita’s clay-heavy soil expands when wet and contracts when dry. A hairline crack in October becomes a quarter-inch gap by February. The cause is usually an undersized base or missing control joints, not the Sakrete mix itself.
- Spalling or flaking on the surface. This is the top layer of concrete delaminating, typically from water getting into the surface and freezing or from finishing the concrete while bleed water was still on top. Sakrete Flo-Coat can fix shallow spalling, but deep spalling needs a full resurface or replacement.
- A paver that sinks or rocks underfoot. One sunken paver is almost always a base problem: the compacted gravel or sand underneath shifted. Patching the surface won’t fix it. The paver has to come out, the base re-leveled, and the paver re-set.
- White chalky residue on paver joints. That’s efflorescence, salts migrating up through the sand. It’s cosmetic, but it signals water is moving through the joints, which means the polymeric sand has broken down and needs replacing.
- Standing water that doesn’t drain after 48 hours. A properly sloped driveway sheds water. If water pools after the rain stops, the slab or paver bed has settled out of grade. On Sakrete-poured slabs this often means the subgrade wasn’t compacted evenly before the pour.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For Santa Clarita, here’s the honest range. A full paver driveway on a standard two-car driveway runs $7,000 – $18,000 depending on paver style, total square footage, and how much excavation the existing base needs. A poured concrete driveway using Sakrete 5000 Plus typically runs $4,500 – $12,000. If you’re replacing a failed slab rather than starting fresh, the demo and haul-off adds $1,500 – $3,500 to the total, which is why we show it as a separate line item on every written estimate.
That written price includes the Sakrete or comparable mix, the base material, compaction, forms, finishing, clean-up, and haul-away. It includes shoe covers and drop cloths if the crew has to walk through the house to reach the backyard. It includes a photo of the finished job and the cleaned site before the crew pulls away. And it falls under the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the driveway settles, cracks beyond normal curing, or the paver joints fail within a year of completion, we come back and fix it.
One thing to be clear about: on a Sakrete-poured slab, we always recommend control joints cut into the wet concrete. Some contractors skip them to save an hour. We don’t, because unjointed 4,000 PSI concrete in Santa Clarita’s temperature swings will crack, and it will crack exactly where you don’t want it to.
DIY or Call Us?
There are two things an owner can safely do before picking up the phone. First, sweep the driveway clean and measure the crack width with a coin. If a quarter fits in the crack, it’s structural, not cosmetic, and it needs a pro eye. Second, check your paver joints: if sand washes out when you spray a gentle hose, the joints need re-sanding. That’s a repair, not a replacement, and it’s on the list of things we can handle in a single visit.
What you shouldn’t do is try to re-pour a failed slab or re-set sunken pavers yourself. Concrete work goes wrong in ways that are expensive to undo: a bad slope sends water toward your foundation, an undermixed bag cures weak, a missed control joint cracks in month two. Pavers look simple until the first row is down and nothing lines up. We’d rather walk your driveway with you and tell you what’s fixable than have you spend a weekend and $400 in materials on a repair that doesn’t hold. Call (661) 542-4056 and we’ll come look, measure, and put the fix in writing before anything gets dug up.
How long will a Sakrete concrete driveway last in Santa Clarita?
A properly mixed, properly sloped Sakrete 5000 Plus slab with control joints will give you 20 – 30 years in Santa Clarita’s climate, provided the subgrade was compacted correctly and water is kept moving off the surface. The weak points are edges, where vehicle weight concentrates, and any area where sprinklers overspray, since steady moisture on clay soil causes more movement than occasional rain.

AfterCan a cracked Sakrete driveway be repaired instead of replaced?
Yes, if the crack is hairline to quarter-inch wide and the slab isn’t sinking, a repair using Sakrete Flo-Coat or a concrete crack filler is a real fix that buys years. If the slab has dropped more than half an inch on one side of the crack, that’s a base failure, and repairing the crack alone won’t hold.
How long does a paver driveway installation take in Santa Clarita?
A standard two-car paver driveway takes 4 – 7 working days from demolition to final joint sand, depending on how much base prep the existing soil requires. A poured concrete driveway is faster on site, 2 – 4 days, but the concrete needs a full 7 days of cure time before you park anything heavier than a bicycle on it.
Do you stock Sakrete products on the truck?
We keep Sakrete High-Strength Mix, 5000 Plus, Flo-Coat, and polymeric sand stocked on our trucks for repair calls and small pours across Santa Clarita, including the Bridgeport neighborhood near Town Center Drive where our crew works regularly. For larger paver orders or specialty aggregate, we order ahead so the material arrives the day we need it, not two weeks later.
We also carry and install materials from KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone for interior work, but for driveway and paver jobs, Sakrete and comparable bagged concrete are what we reach for most often.
Get a Written Price Before the First Shovel Goes In

The price on the paper is the price on the invoice. We put that in writing before the first board goes down, and that goes for a full paver driveway, a Sakrete slab replacement, or a single-day crack repair. Call (661) 542-4056 for a free estimate. A live person answers, we’ll schedule a time to walk the driveway with you, and you’ll have a written line-item price in hand before you decide anything.
