Bufftech Fence Installation: The Santa Clarita Owner’s Guide
Bufftech fence installation in Santa Clarita typically runs $3,500 to $9,000 for a standard residential run, including concrete footings, all hardware, and labor. We carry Bufftech-compatible posts, rails, and pickets on our trucks, and most part-specific fixes take one visit. The usual discovery is quiet: a gate that drags against the latch side, a post that leans after a hard Santa Ana wind event, or a bottom rail that has cracked where irrigation water sat against it. Homeowners in Valencia, Stevenson Ranch, and Saugus call us when the part has failed enough that the fence no longer closes clean or keeps the dog in the yard.
Elmstead Remodeling Santa Clarita is an independent service provider. We are not affiliated with Bufftech, but we install and match their fence systems every month across the Santa Clarita Valley.
Which Bufftech Models This Applies To

Bufftech has made vinyl fence under several series lines over the years: Chesterfield, Coventry, Newbury, and the heavier CertaGrain and SimTek simulated-stone panels. The picket profiles differ between them. Chesterfield uses a narrower 1-1/2″ picket face, Coventry is a wider 2″ profile, and CertaGrain uses a textured panel system that does not share rails or brackets with the standard rail-and-picket lines. The compatibility gotcha: Bufftech changed their bottom-rail channel depth around 2016. Pre-2016 Coventry panels will not seat into newer bottom rails without a shim, and a shim is exactly the kind of fix that fails again in two seasons. If the fence predates 2016, we match to the older rail spec rather than forcing new stock.
To identify the part you need, look for a molded stamp on the inside face of the post cap or the underside of a rail. Bufftech stamps the series name on most residential posts. If the stamp has worn away, measure the picket face across its widest point, not the edges. If you are not sure, Graham Stein or one of our techs can identify the series from a photo before we schedule the truck.

Signs Your Bufftech Fence Installation Is Failing
- Gate drags on the latch side – The most common issue. The hinge post has shifted out of plumb, usually because the concrete footing is undersized for Santa Clarita’s expansive clay soil. The soil here swells with winter rain and shrinks through summer, and the movement works posts loose over five to seven years.
- Bottom rail cracked near a sprinkler head – Vinyl does not rot, but the bottom rail is the weakest point. Constant moisture against the rail plus UV exposure makes the channel brittle. We see this more in Valencia and parts of Newhall where sprinkler overspray hits fence lines.
- Post leaning but the panels look fine – The post itself rarely breaks. What fails is the footing or the post sleeve connection at grade. A straight swap of the post without addressing the footing means you will repeat the repair in three years.
- Panels popping out of routed posts in high wind – Santa Clarita gets sustained 30 to 40 mph gusts through the passes in the fall. Older routed-post systems lose their grip strength over time as the vinyl contracts and expands. If panels rattle, the routing has widened and needs blocking or a replacement post.
- Brittle, chalky surface with hairline cracks – Vinyl in direct Southern California sun loses plasticizer over 15 to 20 years. The surface gets chalky first, then splits when someone leans against it. Repeated painting will not fix it, and neither will sealant.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a partial repair in Santa Clarita – a single post, two rails, or a four-foot section – expect $350 to $900 depending on series and post condition. For a full run replacement of 100 to 150 linear feet, figure $3,500 to $9,000 installed. The range moves with three factors: total linear footage, series material (CertaGrain and SimTek run higher per panel than Chesterfield), and what is happening below grade. If the original footings are undersized and poor soil is pushing posts around, we replace the footings properly rather than re-setting into old concrete.
Every quote includes the parts, concrete, hardware, haul-away of the failed material, and a written line-item price before work begins. We do not give estimates that grow once the crew arrives. The price on the paper is the price on the invoice – we put that in writing before the first board goes down. The work itself is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it is not done right after the job is complete, we make it right.
DIY or Call Us?
Most Bufftech fence work is not dangerous in the way a garage-door spring or an electrical panel is. You are not going to get seriously hurt swapping a vinyl picket. But there are two places where DIY goes wrong in Santa Clarita specifically. First is the footing: a post set in a shallow hole with a bag of quick-set will lean again within two or three winters. The clay soil here demands a wider, deeper footing than most homeowner hand digging produces. Second is matching the series. Homeowners often buy a Coventry rail for a Chesterfield fence because both are white and both are Bufftech, and the channel depth is wrong, and the panel sits proud of the post face.
If one picket is cracked and the rails and posts are sound, you can slip a replacement picket in with basic tools. If the post is leaning, the gate drags, or more than two rails are involved, call us at (661) 542-4056 and we will look at a photo and give you an honest answer, even if that answer is that it can wait.
FAQs

A properly installed Bufftech vinyl fence in Santa Clarita lasts 20 to 25 years before the surface gets noticeably brittle. The weak point is not the vinyl – it is usually the footings against the valley’s clay soil, which we address on every full install. Call (661) 542-4056 for a site assessment if your fence is over 15 years old and showing chalkiness.
A cracked rail generally cannot be reliably repaired. Vinyl cement and sealants fail quickly because the material continues to expand and contract with Santa Clarita’s temperature swings. Replacing the rail is the honest fix, and we stock several Bufftech rail profiles on the truck so the swap usually happens in one visit. Call (661) 542-4056 for an exact quote – estimates are free.
Most single-part replacements – one post, two rails, a gate hinge assembly – take half a day including digging the old footing if needed. A full fence run of 150 linear feet usually takes two to three working days, depending on how much old concrete must come out. We will tell you the schedule before work starts, not after.
We stock common Bufftech pickets, rails, posts, post caps, and gate hardware on our trucks in Santa Clarita, including series like Chesterfield and Coventry. Less common profiles, such as CertaGrain panels, we source from our material partners and schedule once the parts are in hand. We also stock parts for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone, which gives us broader material access than a fence-only shop.
When your Bufftech fence is failing in Santa Clarita, call (661) 542-4056 to schedule a free estimate. You will get a live person on the phone, a written price before any work starts, and a crew that leaves the yard cleaner than they found it.
