Boxabl Kitchen Remodeling: The Santa Clarita Owner’s Guide

If you own a Boxabl home in Santa Clarita and the kitchen is failing you, a full kitchen remodel typically runs $14,000 to $45,000 installed, depending on cabinet line, countertop material, and how much of the existing layout we’re reworking. Most Boxabl owners in this area reach out after discovering that replacement parts for the original kitchen are hard to source, the laminate surfaces have worn through, or the standard cabinet boxes have started to pull away from the walls after a few hot, dry Santa Clarita summers. The short version: we plan the remodel around the Boxabl module dimensions, source named-brand materials that actually fit the space, and hand you a written price before the first board goes down.

Call (661) 542-4056

Here’s how owners usually find the problem: a cabinet door won’t close square anymore, a countertop seam has opened near the sink, or the original flat-pack hardware has stripped out where it anchors into the module wall. Sometimes it happens slowly. A hinge loosens. A drawer front drops a fraction. Then one day the kitchen just feels done. That’s the moment to call.

We’re an independent remodeling contractor in Santa Clarita, not a Boxabl dealer or affiliate. What that means for you is we stock and install kitchens that work in Boxabl homes, and we’re not tied to whatever the factory shipped originally. We can spec better.

The price on the paper is the price on the invoice. We put that in writing before the first board goes down.

Which Boxabl Models This Applies To

A galley kitchen opened up to the dining room with a new peninsula

Boxabl homes share a common 19-foot-6-inch by 19-foot-6-inch module footprint whether it’s a Casita, a stacked two-module configuration, or a custom arrangement, and the kitchen is always built along one of the straight module walls. That means the rough kitchen space is compact, linear, and highly predictable. The original kitchen cabinets are typically RTA (ready-to-assemble) flat-pack units with framed boxes, thin laminate doors, and a shallow 24-inch countertop depth. The module wall itself is a steel-framed panel system with wood or composite sheathing, not conventional stick framing.

What matters for parts and replacement: standard big-box cabinets from the chain stores in Valencia or Canyon Country are often 24 inches deep, which works, but the standard cabinet heights don’t always align with the Boxabl furring strips and plumbing runs. The upper cabinets in a Boxabl kitchen sit lower than in a typical Southern California tract home. If you buy a 30-inch upper cabinet off the shelf, it can crowd the countertop. We plan for 24-inch or 27-inch uppers depending on where the module’s electrical chase runs.

The OEM-vs-aftermarket decision for Boxabl kitchens usually resolves to this: the original hardware and hinges are imported RTA fittings. They work, but they’re not worth reordering when they fail. Ball-bearing soft-close hinges from Blum or equivalent aftermarket brands fit the standard 35mm cup hole and last significantly longer in dry California heat. Cabinet boxes in a Boxabl kitchen respond well to plywood-box replacement units from KraftMaid or Wellborn, and those brands come with manufacturer warranties you can verify by name. Silestone and Cambria quartz surfaces are available in the smaller slab sizes that make sense for a Boxabl layout, which means you don’t pay for three-quarters of a slab you’ll never use.

Signs Your Boxabl Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

  • Cabinet doors won’t stay aligned or keep loosening at the hinge. The original particleboard stiles in RTA cabinets lose thread-holding power after repeated cycles, and the screws back out. Tightening them works for a month, then the door sags again. The fix is new boxes with solid wood or plywood stiles, not a better screw.
  • Countertop edges are chipping or delaminating near the sink. Original Boxabl countertops are usually post-formed laminate. Water from the Santa Clarita tap, which runs hard, gets under the laminate at the sink cutout and starts lifting it within a few years. Once the substrate swells, it’s a replacement job, not a repair.
  • The kitchen always feels cramped and the layout fights you. Original Boxabl kitchens prioritize shipping weight over daily usefulness. There’s rarely a proper bank of drawers, the corner is wasted, and the sink base is narrow. That’s not a part failure, but it’s the number one reason Boxabl owners in Santa Clarita call us for a full remodel rather than a patch.
  • Drawer glides are marked “Made in China” and make a grinding sound. The stock epoxy-coated ball-bearing slides are fine for light duty but wear out under daily family use with kids and pets pulling at them. Replacement glides exist, but the drawer boxes themselves are often stapled particleboard by then.
  • Moisture staining at the base of the sink cabinet. The factory plumbing connections and shallow base trays mean a slow drip behind the front toe kick can go unnoticed. By the time the toe kick swells or the floor shows a water line, the cabinet box is compromised.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A stone counter, tile backsplash and open shelf after a kitchen remodel

A full Boxabl kitchen remodel in Santa Clarita runs $14,000 to $45,000. A smaller refresh with cabinet refacing or a partial swap can land under that, but for a complete rework with new cabinets, countertops, and fixtures, that’s the honest range. Here’s how it breaks down:

  • Full kitchen remodel: $14,000 – $45,000
  • Cabinet installation only: $4,000 – $13,000
  • Countertop installation only: $2,000 – $6,500
  • Backsplash installation: $800 – $2,500
  • Kitchen island installation: $3,000 – $10,000

What moves the number: cabinet line (KraftMaid plywood boxes cost more than entry-level Wellborn, and the difference shows in year eight), countertop material (Cambria and Silestone quartz run higher than laminate but hold up to hard water and knife work), and whether we’re moving the sink or electrical. A written price always comes before work starts, and it doesn’t change after the crew arrives. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the finished project: if it’s not done right, we make it right. No fine print, no call-back charge.

DIY or Call Us?

There are things you can safely check yourself. Pull a drawer out and look at the box corners. If the particleboard is swollen or the staples are showing, the drawer is done, and replacing the glide alone won’t fix it. Wipe the underside of the countertop near the sink with a dry paper towel. If it comes back soft or brown, water’s getting in. Those checks are free and tell you a lot.

What we don’t recommend doing yourself is pulling and resetting cabinets in a Boxabl module. The wall system isn’t forgiving, and misses in the stud points or wiring chases turn small jobs into drywall and electrical work. Kitchen plumbing in a Boxabl is also tight-quarter work behind the sink base. If the plan involves moving the sink or range, you want someone who’s worked inside these modules before.
