Belgard Driveway & Pavers: The Santa Clarita Owner’s Guide

If your Belgard paver driveway or patio has a cracked unit, a sunken section, or edge restraints that have let go, we stock and install Belgard-compatible pavers throughout Santa Clarita, and a typical repair or replacement section runs $700 to $4,500 depending on square footage and base work. Most paver failures in this valley trace back to two things: the base layer settling after heavy rain, or polymeric sand washing out of the joints and letting the units shift. You’ll usually spot it first as a low spot that holds water after the sprinklers run, or a paver that rocks underfoot near the driveway apron.

We’re an independent installer, not a Belgard dealer or affiliate, and we carry Belgard pavers, edge restraints, joint sand, and base material on our trucks so most repairs don’t wait on a supply run. Graham Stein and the crew have rebuilt enough Santa Clarita driveways to know which Belgard lines hold up on sloped lots in Valencia and which ones need a deeper base in the sandy soil east of the 14.

Which Belgard Models This Applies To

Belgard makes more than a dozen paver lines, but in Santa Clarita we see four families most often: the Cambridge Cobble and Holland Stone lines for driveways, the Mega Arbel and Urbana lines for patios and walkways, and the Catalina Slate and Mega Bergerac for larger-format modern looks. Each line has its own dimensions and joint spacing, and the pavers are not interchangeable across lines even when the color looks close. A Cambridge Cobble unit measures 4 inches by 8 inches with a 60mm thickness for driveways, while Mega Arbel runs 12 inches by 12 inches at 60mm, and swapping one for the other leaves a joint pattern that looks wrong and drains unevenly.

If you don’t know your line, look on the underside of a lifted paver for a raised Belgard stamp, or take a photo of the surface pattern and a single unit’s dimensions. The color blend matters as much as the line. Belgard runs production lots, and a “Sierra” blend from 2016 will not match a “Sierra” blend poured this year exactly. For replacement sections we always pull a sample from an inconspicuous corner and match the current lot as closely as the color range allows, then feather the new units into the old field so the eye doesn’t catch the transition. When an exact match isn’t available, we tell you that before we order anything, and we show you the closest lot option in daylight, not under a showroom lamp.

Signs Your Belgard Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

  • A paver rocks or tips when you step on it. That’s almost always joint sand loss. Santa Clarita’s dry-season winds lift the fine sand out of the joints, and once it’s gone the units lose lateral grip and start pivoting on the base.
  • Water pools in a low spot after rain or irrigation runoff. The base layer has settled or washed out underneath. In the sandy soils near Newhall and Canyon Country, a base that wasn’t compacted in lifts will settle unevenly within two or three winters.
  • The outside edge of the driveway is spreading or the border is separating from the field. Edge restraints have failed. Plastic edge restraint can crack from UV exposure here, and once the border lifts, the whole field wants to drift outward.
  • Weeds or ants are pushing up between joints. The joint sand is gone and the open gaps invite soil and seeds. Ants love a hollow void under pavers, and their tunnels accelerate the settling.
  • You see a single cracked paver with the crack running straight across the face. Usually a point load, like a car axle parked on the same spot every day, or a paver reset over a low stone that sat proud of the base. One cracked unit is a simple swap. Three or four cracking in the same area tells us the base underneath is the problem, not the paver.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A whole-home remodel with the living, dining and kitchen areas opened up

In Santa Clarita, a paver driveway installation runs $7,000 to $18,000 for a full rebuild, and a paver patio installation runs $3,500 to $11,000. A repair section is smaller: we typically bid $700 to $2,500 for a single low-spot repair with base recompaction and new joint sand, and $2,500 to $4,500 when we’re pulling a larger section, regrading the base, and resetting edge restraints. You’ll get a written price before any work starts, and that number does not change when the crew arrives.

Service Typical Range in Santa Clarita
Full paver driveway installation $7,000 – $18,000
Paver patio installation $3,500 – $11,000
Low-spot repair with base recompaction $700 – $2,500
Larger section rebuild with new restraints $2,500 – $4,500

What drives the range is mostly the base. If the existing base is sound and we’re only lifting units, re-screeding, and re-sanding, the cost stays low. If we’re excavating failed base, hauling spoil, and recompacting in lifts, the labor and disposal hours climb. Every repair includes new polymeric joint sand, edge restraint replacement where needed, and a plate-compacted finish. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the work: if a repaired section settles or shifts within the year, we come back and make it right.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check the joints yourself. Run a fingertip along a few seams and see how much sand is left, and step on suspect pavers to feel for movement. That’s useful information to have when you call us, and it helps you understand what you’re looking at. What we’d steer you away from is pulling pavers and rebuilding a base on your own. Compaction is the part that fails quietly. A plate compactor run at the wrong moisture content or in too-thick lifts looks fine for a season, then settles, and you’re back where you started with a bigger hole and more material to haul.

For a single cracked paver in an otherwise sound field, a careful homeowner can sometimes swap it, but matching the lot color and getting the joint sand density right is fussier than it looks. When the base is involved, the scope isn’t a weekend project. Call (661) 542-4056 and we’ll walk the area with you, tell you honestly whether it’s a swap or a rebuild, and put the price in writing before anything gets touched.
